How about option to export with no head?

Postby xxdb » Fri Feb 01, 2013 11:40 pm

Hi,

I like to play around with the makehuman models but put different heads on (e.g. minotaur heads or alien heads) but it's quite the challenge to easily to this and I often have to spend a whole bunch of time cleanly removing polygon faces after slashing off the head. It would be much easier if there was a way to export the body as obj (or whatever) but with the head missing with a cleanly sliced topology (or at least an option to have the head separated from the body with a clean topological cut).

Doable?

Because the makehuman mesh has a very clean topology, it should be very fast and easy to remove the head from the body.
In blender, I would do it like this:
- Edge Loop Select a loop in the neck
- delete all the selected vertices
- hover mouse over head
- press L to select all grouped vertices
- delete selected vertices

Head should be gone.

Also check out the Looptools plugin that comes with Blender, it allows you to quickly connect two selected loops with polygons. eg. select loop at the neck of a new head, select loop in the neck of the headless body and poly fill between the two loops, to connect the new head to the body quickly.

K thanks. Not a huge blender expert - I mainly use maya but thanks for the tip.
