how do you make main mesh parented to armature in blender?

also how would i know when it's done?

In Object mode, select mesh, select armature, press Ctrl-P, select automatic weights.

But make sure that the armature is in object mode and not pose mode, otherwise you will parent to the one bone you selected.

then switch to pose and move the armature, mesh should move as well, then you know it worked.
