Blender clothes sewing

OMG! you know when you are a bit behind... i seriously just learnt about blenders sewing springs. crazy i know, so where i would sit and model the clothes mesh from scratch there is actually and easier way using the sewing springs, this essentially allows one to take a sewing pattern, place the fabric "cutout" in front and back of model - connect the edges, assign these to a vertex group and under cloth simulation, cloth sewing springs, shrinkage - assign your group and then press play - and it becomes a lovely fitting piece of clothing..

here is an example i found on youtube, you could probably find better tutorials if you search, but it gives you an idea of what it is i am on about.

Here is an awesome video - also because it is using MakeHuman.

PLS. if anyone has used this before, please could you give some feedback.

There are actually tutorial videos on this in the docs :-)

See videos in the "clothes" section here http://www.makehumancommunity.org/wiki/ ... nder_tools

Does anyone know how to create/obtain the mesh pattern in the first video?

And since I'm posting... Can someone remind me about the automated method for taking a "jagged" hole cut from a square mesh and making it round? I read about on the forums but can't find it.

I think that was me, but I didn't mention the name, because I didn't remember what it was.

It looks like it was loop tools, which apparently comes with blender? https://blender.stackexchange.com/quest ... ices-round

Also, for making patterns, there's this site for making patterns (for use in Marvelous designer but it could work in blender). I tried it, but then it turned out to be a ton of work to measure a character, and generated patterns would turn out weird even with a lot of tweaking. But it also has "off the shelf" patterns based on standard clothing sizes. Also, it's a paid service, $14/month. https://patternmakerpro.com/

Thanks for the round tool link!

I worded my other question badly, what I meant to refer to was the non-grid mesh:

Ah, now that I look at it again I see that it uses triangles.

I was thinking of the mesh used for Nate's leather jacket:

These sowing springs are really great: https://youtu.be/X39vQFiH0xg

This:

becomes this:

It still needs a belt and collar but it sure beats putting it together manually!

Nice work!! It looks great!

Hmm, I wonder if it would work to bring loose clothing into makehuman via rigid vertex groups. The clothes would hopefully scale up with height without deforming. Then characters would be exported to blender, using another cloth sim to allow the clothes to follow the body.

It should work. That's the thing with assigning the mesh to a single vertex. The docs show this picture:

,
but the actual version of mc does look different:

.

I guess apart from the docs to be not up to date, the procedure is still valid: Select your cloth vertices, put them in a group, give the human the same group and chose a vertex to be the origin of the offset. How to set the scaling to uniform? I don't know. And if anyone knows what it could be good for to be able to shear or mirror the bounding box, please leave a comment.

Some progress.

I haven't tried MakeClothes yet because I used multiple materials. I'll try once I'm more satisfied with it.
