Creating characters for UDK-2009?

Postby Dr_Schnellinger » Fri Jan 29, 2021 5:45 am

Hello.

I've created a few characters on makehuman, but I can't find a way to use them on Unreal Development Kit 3 (2009).

I cannot switch to UE4 because I have a low-end PC:

Biostar P4M890M-7
PentiumD 2.0Ghz
2GB RAM DDR2
8400GS 1GB (GPU)

I'm no expert on UDK, the installer has been lying around in my HDD since 2015, and I recently decided to use it.

I've read some tutorials that involves uploading the model to Mixamo and applying the "basic shooter pack" anims, I did it but UDK refuses to import the model.

So, how can I use the characters on UDK 2009?

Thad'd be great. Unfortunately I cannot give you a direct download link for the UDK, since I don't remember where I got that from.

The version is 2009-11 and the filesize is 576,274K

There is an tutorial on using makehuman with UE4 on our wiki and a long thread here on the forum with the evolution of tutorial. But you may find that your UDK has been superseded as Epic has a history of not allowing backward compatibility.

Enjoy the Choice :)

I've read that tutorial. It seems that my life would be much more pleasant if I had UE4. :(

I'm planning to craft a simple 2nd person shooter to play it with my friends. For now my plan is to take the default "VehicleCTF" gamemode and tweak it to use my MH models, real guns like AKs and MP5s. Real vehicles like Chevy Silverados or something like that and urban maps.

Something simple.

I tried FPSCreator... it's very easy to use, but the engine is... well, it doesn't understand the word "Performance". And the player movement 'feels weird'. And it won't allow you to create a simple multiplayer game with LAN support, you know, the good ol' Server & Client.

Have you had a look at the Unity engine it's a C# system though or have a look at the Godot engine as I'm fairly sure you will not find any support for UDK-2009 any more. And you can not use UT2004 on Windows any more it uses DX9 for rendering and Win10 is now on DX11 with no backward compatibility if you can switch the render engine to OpenGL it might be usable as that is what UT2K4 uses on Linux so good luck. And please feel free to use us as a resource we will certainly try to answer any of your questions 8-)

Oh well... I guess I have to drop it. Thanks for the help anyway. Oh, and I'm on Windows 7 Professional x64. The incompatibility of Windows 10 with old software is what keeps me with Windows 7 and Windows XP; I have a lot of old software.

Well that means that you can still use UT2004 :D with all it's resources and level editor there lots of tutorials on getting assets into it on the web tracking down all the various utilities for a complete tool chain maybe tedious though.Still have my discs for UT2004 and am planning on installing it on my box on the Linux side under WINE just love the Onslaught mode though after a stroke affected my fine motor control on my left side keyboard use is a bit clumsy

Hmmm... I'll give a shot to that Unreal Tournament 2004; I'm pretty sure this PC can run that one.

I never played any of those UT during their 'boom'.

I was trying to craft a shooter with the camera behind your shoulder, just like Resident Evil 4.

These are the characters I made:

Camera over the shoulder is a keyboard toggle in UT2K4 is the default mode while controlling one of the vehicles the Chaos mod has a hover board that is fun to use.
