Alpha Maps (clothing)

Postby SaltyCowdawg » Thu Dec 26, 2019 1:36 am

Is there an easy way to create these maps. I know they are b/w images that convert to a value of 0.000 to 1.000 but I'm not having much luck doing so...

Hi Salty what effect are you trying to achieve as when I see alpha I think alpha channel which gives transparency?

Enjoy the Choice :)

For most MH proxies the alpha is a 4th byte for each pixel that saves in .png format from apps like GIMP or Krita or photoshop. That is, in the MH world, they are part of the image itself and not a separate image. This scheme can be used by Maya, Max, or Blender but will sometimes require extra work setting up nodes.

You hit the nail on the head. I created a body suit that I'm looking for it to be transparent all over. Just screwed up and accidently deleted it (!) but it won't take me long to recreate it.

When I set the material up in Blender Render I thought that transparency would transfer to the MHMAT file but it doesn't seem to work out very well.

I'll be doing more experiments on this later.

I was inspired by an image that popped up in an unrelated search for clothing patterns. Planning on making some of the clothing I have on my list using sewing patterns as reference images and joining the pieces.

Couldn't get the new MakeClothes to work with Blender 2.8 so I've reverted to Blender 2.79 and using the old workflow for now.

Yeah good practise I always keep an old version of blender around but it's fairly easy on Linux when you use the tarbal version not the distro package as it's usually out of date anyway :o
