Insecure connection warning

Postby gwc42 » Sat Aug 03, 2019 11:38 am

Hi,
I feel I should point out that when attempting to login to the forum Firefox displayed the following warning:"This connection is not secure.Logins entered here could be compromised." One piece of advice Firefox gave was to contact web admin for the site and ask them to secure their connection.I hope that is what I am now doing; but should this not be the right place to contact web admin, might I ask you to be so kind as to forward this information to the appropriate person/team.
Regards
Gary

Thanks. Many modern browsers drop the http:// and https:// so these things are not as easy to spot without feedback. Encryption is probably not essential for the activity on this web site, but I suspect our service provider can easily enable it.

Making our web site https:// would mean that joel would have to get a proper certificate and the maintenance/change over is work we do not the service provider unless we pay specifically for that service. Not the first project that I have been associated with that has considered this.

The problem isn't the certificate. The problem is that mediawiki kept creating a redirect loop when I tried enabling https on top of the proxy, and that I have to get around that somehow.

Thx for the clarification joel figured it was that sort of issue lots of the CMS seem to be very tricky to take to https:// each site is different and the solutions are not generalised .
