Problem making a realistic face

Postby ecke101 » Tue May 28, 2019 1:15 pm

Hello, I'm playing around a bit with makehuman/blender/unity and it mostly works great.
My problem now is to make the faces a bit more realistic. Body is fine and has clothes covering most parts, but the face is what people notice..

Is there any other meshes or user contribution to get a more detailed face with better textures? Maybe the face should get a bigger piece of the texture to make it more detailed than the rest of the body?
Also there are some topology problems I think, mainly with smiling which is quite common in humans. The cheeks tend to "crease" around the mouth when humans smile..
I've tried to modify the mesh a little to get that effect but couldn't get it to look any good at all.

edit: Maybe this should be in "Bugs, problems and feature requests"..

There are these things called "targets" for adjusting the humans' facial and body features. You can make them yourself with MakeTarget, but if that's not your thing then you could post a request for the kind of smile creases you're looking for in the "Assets, asset repositories and asset downloader" section http://www.makehumancommunity.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=20 and somebody might feel inspired to make one -- because it does seem like a rather useful thing for a human face to have.

Thanks for the answer. I guess I will have to look into how to make targets when I get some time over. I did make a quick test in blender just dragging some vertices on the dude to the right, and I think it does look like a much better smile.

That looks pretty good and more realistic, especially for older humans.

You could just make a Shape Key for it in Blender, if you're not into learning how the whole "targets" thing works (I do more cartoon stuff than realism stuff, so I don't know very much about it at all).
