Suggestions for producing a skin for an alien, blue

Postby SaltyCowdawg » Thu Apr 18, 2024 10:19 pm

I managed to produce an alien I saw in an illustration of a science fiction story using sculpting... easy enough I'd say...

Now to the tricky part.. Just using a principled shader was.... horrible... too uniform how and what variations should I add and how??

Greetings

You should add at least pores, maybe some spots, such as birthmarks, age spots, freckles, moles and the like. For alien flesh the sky is the limit truly you can add patterened spots and stripes even w/e heart truly can dream up. I have done some of this in blender if you want to see some of my procedurals. I know Joel has implemented some of this in the blenderside addy you can check that out by looking at his node trees. When I make alien skin I also consider glow (bioluminescence) and climate reasons for change in skin types it may be thinner or thicker noticeably or have specific folds....Food for thought,

Elv
