Makehuman can't see/open .mhm files

Hi, Everyone,

Stupid question and I’m sorry for it. But my copy of Makehuman can no longer see or open .mhm files. All of a sudden, it just stopped.

I have checked the logs and there is no error log to show. I do have a debug log which I’ll post below.

I’m running on a make with the newest Mac built. And, yes, I downloaded the program again and the new version has the same problem.

I’ve only been using Makehuman a short while and I’m not particularly computer savvy, so be gentle and assume brain death on my side of the conversation :-)

I’ve cruised the forums and it looks like this is something that has happened to a lot of people. But so far I haven’t seen an answer.

We do not have a lot of Mac expertise. I do know that there are some major changes to the OS that came along with BigSur that have disrupted other programs I use.

Was it BigSur you upgraded to? Is it when you upgraded to BigSur that things stopped working? I can't see anything that is a clear issue in you included log file.

When you say you can't see or open .mhm files, I want to ask if you tried to save a NEW .mhm file and if that was possible. In other words, did you lose your old files but you can create new ones or can you not even create new ones? Do you see, skins, models, poses, etc. as you would expect?

Oh, that's right! I forgot. I upgraded to Big Sur a short while back. I bet that's the problem.

And, yes, I did save *new* files and makehuman still couldn't open it.

But, I'm guessing the issue is in Big Sur, or, at least, in my upgrade to it.

In a word, dang. One of these days I am going to have to switch to Linux.

I am quite sure there is not a big problem ... at least try this ...

When you save a model. can you check if it reaches the folder /Users/michaeljaytucker/Documents/MakeHuman/v1py3/models ?

Or is there a /Users/michaeljaytucker/Library/Application Support/MakeHuman/makehuman.conf file? In that case the Documents path is redirected to the path mentioned in this file.

then check /Users/michaeljaytucker/Documents/MakeHuman/v1py3/settings.ini ...
Here the pathes loaddir, savedir and exportdir are also inserted.

I had the problem once, that the old path without v1py3 was not used in that file. You can delete this settings.ini file. It will be recreated. In his case it is not an apple problem.

Apple versus Linux:

inside this apple there is an OS which is quite similar to what Linux is. Although each command, each daemon-name and path seems to be different I got all my Linux software running.
I was rather happy those times with that first iMac. No problems of building an own box, all complete and it worked fine. But after two generations of Apple computers they changed it more and more to a system which hides information. Like Windows they hid postfixes like .png etc. people got more and more confused when things did not work with two mouse clicks. In the forum there were answers like erase and re-install it .. :roll: then you know about the knowledge of even "key users".

It all looks so easy ... but even I didn't no longer understand what it was doing. Additional user permissions were invented and a second layer was created for this quick search etc. Check how many files starting with "." are in a folder (on cli with ls -la). One of the happy facts was that the second box (a mac mini) scanned all images I have for faces (guess how many it found in my collection of railway pictures :) ) without my permission which took hours and changed the mac mini into a boiling plate. I could use it as a coffee warmer then. And without my personal data at Apple no way to start. Finally I decided to end this relationship.

And in the end I decided to do exactly this, I changed back to Linux. Meanwhile I even use a dual boot ... and sometimes, when nobody watches :oops: , check what Windows is doing with e.g. Blender. For Windows an account is avoided by simply not plug in the internet at the first start, maybe they will change that sooner or later and urge me to have an account :lol:

When you use Linux you have to be aware that the cli sometimes is your best friend. It is different.
