There are several MHMAT settings which aren't actually displayed in MakeHuman, but which are still around to provide material hints in exports. Another example is SSS, and I suspect aoMap doesn't do a whole lot either.

I very much doubt a GPU error would only drop normal maps if everything else works, especially not a nvidia GPU.
