Import into UNITY cant figure out Shader

Postby Davidus » Fri Mar 02, 2018 7:41 pm

Hi. I read the workflow about importing from Makehuman into UNITY. I have 1.1. Well.. I still can't get the EYES to work, and can't figure out the shader. I can't find the legacy shader..and the boxes are greyed out to boot. I cannot find where to download the legacy shader.. AND where do I insert this shader? When I export the FBX from UNITY am I supposed to tick the lightmaps and the UV? :x

It is UNITY 2017.3.F1 Personal. It seems a simple fix.. but the shaders are greyed out.. I don't get a list of choices for shaders. I've been stuck for 2 days trying to figure it out. None of the walkthroughs and videos address this problem. I don't understand how to deal with these materials.

Have you seen http://www.makehumancommunity.org/wiki/ ... them_there it should help you figure out what is wrong.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Unless you extract the materials, you won't be able to pick shaders.

The problem is in Unity 2017.3 Unity won't let you edit the shader... I reverted to UNITY 2017.1 and the Legacy Shader fix worked. I am suprised that others have not posted about this.

Hmmmm...
A quick look seems to suggest that the legacy shaders are still supported in Unity 2017.3 :

Are you saying there is something intrinsic to MakeHuman that prevents you from using them?

Does there need to be an update to our FAQ ? We always appreciate contributions to same. :)

I Just put a character into unity and had no problems with the eye material. What are you having troubles with exactly?

If they are just white try the low poly eyes instead of the high-poly. Or, maybe change the shader type to cutout and turn the alpha on....I am using 2017.1, however, but I wouldn't think there is much difference in the shader.

I would try the low poly eyes.

I downloaded 2017.3

With the eye material, if you are using the hi-poly eyes, needs to have the rendering mode changed to cutout or fade and the alpha level in the albeito section needs to be turned up/down however you look at it. The hi-poly eyes actually have 2 meshes to them. The inside mesh has the color and the outside covering is for a glass shader or something that you can see through in order to make it look realistic. Even in blender the meshes need to be separated to make the shaders work properly.

If you use the low poly eyes the outside mesh does not exist so it can be shaded with the opaque setting in unity. For game mechanics, the low poly eyes are your best bet anyways. There is less rendering demand and the textures with alpha added are more costly.
