But if you use user contributed assets that are provided under the creative commons "BY", the author at least expects citation. Personally, i want you to not only give attributions to my assets, but as i nowadays license them under CC-BY-NC-SA, i also expect from you to not use my assets for commercial purposes ("NC") as well as not changing the licensing ("share alike" - SA). So in short:

CC 0: do what you like
CC BY: give attribution
CC BY-ND no derivatives. Only copy, share and attribute
CC BY-SA do what you want but give attribution and keep the license as is
CC BY-NC give attribute and don't dare selling it, even if modified.
CC BY-NC-ND give attribute, don't touch the original and don't sell it
CC BY-NC-SA give attribute, do what you like with it, but don't touch its license and hands off the commerce. For the living, start learning something useful eventually, greedy Schmock.

And there is another possibility:

Ask the author.

Especially when you are member of this community it is not a problem.

I've done it to upload the deathnote t-shirt from O4Saken. Antiqua_Sphinge is writing books and needed help. Of course he is selling the books. It is commercial but not a multi-million dollar business. If I like an idea, I will always agree that somebody is using "my" assets. I'm not earning money with this hobby and sometimes it is fun to see these assets used in different contexts (e.g. dance virtual, greetings to the people doing it, I hope the off-shoulder top still fits  )

Sometimes I google for these assets. And so I found them e.g. in the EEP-forum (german forum for railway simulator). And I know they are reading this text, because they are discussing the license topic. Funny enough that they never ever thought about contacting one of the asset authors (or did they do it?).

There is also a chance ... sometimes, like in the case of Antiqua_Sphinge I even realized new assets because I like an idea!

And without these ideas the topics ballet or wonder woman would never happened.
