Hello. I played around with collada imports in blender. I was very impressed with what I was able to do. There was only one problem that I think would hamper full-featured character animation, and that is the bones in the face.
With some painstaking effort, I was able to get a character to yawn. One problem was in getting the two different jaws' worth of teeth to go to different bones. I'm just wondering if there's a little something you could do on your end that makes the parenting of bone to mesh in the face with blender that would save people like me a lot of work in rigging.
