Daz Studio / Poser

Postby Tommysk » Tue Sep 23, 2008 1:28 pm

Hi, will we be able to export future MH characters to DAZ Studio or Poser ?

Actually, the main question is "could future MakeHuman export to the unimesh file format" ?

Daz reads obj files if I'm not mistaken, so you can import them even now and Dad (of on the user here) had at least some success in using MH and poser:

DAZ and Poser do indeed import the MakeHuman obj. files. However, the bone/rigging does not import and you are unable to pose the figure. I am hoping the newest MakeHuman release will have Poser bone system compatibility. Currently, to bring a boned figure into DAZ or Poser, I need to use a program like ToolBox II from Greenbriar Studios to add the Poser bones to the obj file. I have successfully created many figures and props using the following...

The process is;
1. Create the figure in MakeHuman (I am using ver 9.1) and export as an obj. file.
2. Import the obj. file into ToolBox II. Add an empty Poser mesh to hold the bones. Then copy or create the bone rigging and export the final combined figure to a Poser character.
3. ToolBox II creates all the files needed for DAZ|Studio with the exception of the thumbnail, which I create from a render of the new character.

Links and samples can be found on my website.

Hope this helps.

If the file format is documented then I can imagine someone writing a python export plugin for it... once the python plugin thingy is there

Can't you use COLLADA with Poser (or Poser pro) ?

I think the first goal would be to import, then once you know the file format well you can easily export.
