We need artists!!

The code and the GUI are almost ready. It is likely that the basic features (but not the new pose engine) will be completed for the end of September.
The precise release date will be very dependant upon the time it takes to create the new targets database.
In particular, the ethnicity database will need a lot of models. At the moment, because of a series of extra tasks, our 3D artists are very very busy, so there is the danger that it could take them months to complete this new database. To avoid this, we need help from the open source community. If you are a skilled artist, or you know a skilled artist please help us. Send an email to: http://www.makehuman.org/blog/index.php ... 1211293639 with a short description of your skills and a little portfolio. If you know another forum where it is possible (respecting netiquette) to search for volunteers, you are free to tam tam this message.

So even if the morphs are not complete for some time. Does this mean that custom characters are still possibly using the new 3d widget system?

Also what if the mesh is changed again in the future. Does this mean that all new morphs will have to be created?

Yes.

The mesh will be always derived from previous obj, so the targets can be re-used, but will need manual adjustment.
Anyway, about incoming release, the problem is not from details targets, but from ethnic targets, that must be done from scratch (it's the first time we have specific ethnic feature in MH).
Furthermore, we need to start to build the head database, that will be needed for automatic head reconstruction.

Regards,

Manuel

At the very least, a blog post? I'm betting more people read that than come to the forums.

I must agree - most people don't regard forums as the first line of information. Recruiting [for artists] on the front page will get you a landslide of takers. And specifying the skill set being sought after is probably evident as the proper approach at this point.

BTW, I'm very encouraged by the Python API draft. Making MH integrate seamlessly with Blender might even inspire folks to learn to use the convoluted Blender interface -- or better still, perhaps it'll inspire Blender GUI designers to follow the lead of MH with an emphasis on usability.

One can at least hope.

The call for artists is getting some good exposure on Blender Nation & Blender Artists.
