'symmetrical' armature bone names for blender

Blender likes to have 'symmetrical' bone names ie xyz_L and xyz_R for the corresponding names on opposite sides of the body. Blender uses this for various features such as 'bone heat weighting' and 'flipped poses'. Would it be possible to rename MakeHuman's bones accordingly?
