3D printing

Postby Hauken » Sun May 25, 2014 4:15 pm

For those in the business of 3D printing, perhaps a skeleton could be introduced?

I brought this up once before, at that time I meant a 3D model of a human skeleton, but what about something more like this

or more basic:

It would be neat to be able to create Phicens using MakeHuman. If I knew where/if the frames were sold separately, it might make things a little more simple, but instead they could be exported with the MakeHuman model and then possibly 3D printed in case someone wants to make a physical figure of their MakeHuman model.

I really like the first more complex one more, because it imitates muscle contraction as well.

The Phicens I've found are usually 12inches tall and having a scalable frame in MakeHuman would also be a bonus as I wanted to make something around the height of 18in so I could add more detail.

We welcome any community attempt at creating a plugin for such a thing. But I believe that none of the MakeHuman developers have experience with such mechanical skeletons.

Blender supports 3d printing iirc, it might be a better if this program focuses more on creating models quickly, while Blender is used for more advanced stuff like shaders, rendering (with the movie maker), and/or printing.

Anyone having success printing 3D models from make human?
Friend and Me have been failing...seems that output is very messy :-/
What can be done to make this possible in any way?

I've had success with Cura and an OBJ export from MakeHuman.
The MakeHuman basemesh is a nice completely closed shape. Converting the geometry to layers really is a task for the printer software.
