To build MH from the source files on SVN you'll need a development environment. The developers guide on the Wiki has two sections that should help you with getting the SVN source files, setting up the build environment and building the application if that is what you want to do:
http://makehuman.wiki.sourceforge.net/D ... nvironment
http://makehuman.wiki.sourceforge.net/D ... _Processes

This could be quite a challenging task if you're not a developer, so you may prefer to wait for the next pre-built distribution (see the release roadmap at http://makehuman.wiki.sourceforge.net/Release_RoadMap).

In all cases there shouldn't be any need to merge the current SVN files with the pre-alpha files. It's best/easiest to create a separate directory.

You could try http://mh.jwp.se for nightly builds.
