#newbie problem with importing assets

Postby haniarym » Fri Feb 21, 2025 5:02 pm

hello,
I am new to MPFB and I am super hyped to try it, but I have been encountering issues that I don't know how to fix. I have the 2.0.8 version installed on blender 4.2.2. My issue is that the assets don't import to blender. once I import the assets from a Zip file and restart blender, they don't show up at all. I have tried a few times and tried to uninstall and install again, but it doesnt seem to work for me. I also tried with the version on Github, on the MakeHuman website and following some tutorials but seem to be stuck on this part. I am also not so good with coding. Anyone has any tips on how to help me????
would be super grateful

Hard to say without more info. I'd need to see some screenshots to begin with:

- One showing the systems and resources panel
- One showing the contents of the data directory (which can by found by clicking the user data button under system and resources)
- One of the preferences panel (addon preferences -> mpfb)

I might also need to see the contents of some logs, but the screenshots would be a good start.

Attaching logs etc might be easier on github and there are some other useful info to include listed on https://static.makehumancommunity.org/m ... a_bug.html

these are screenshots that I can provide. excuse me I might be asking stupid questions but as I said I am new to this. I am also doing this on Mac, so I am wondering if that could be an issue? And on that note, I am not sure how to get log files from this. When I open log files from system and resources directories, they show me an empty folder?

You don't have “Path to…” specified in your settings.

yes, I filled it now with a folder that contains the assets, but I still don't get the assets in the library, I attached a video recording of what it looks now. Is the problem with how this folder is set up? or something else?

I can't say for sure. The thing is that I'm using Win 11 and I solved a similar problem by downloading assets and putting them in a user folder. But my situation may be different because of OS.

yes, what I tried to do so far is to take the folder with the assets and replace the empty asset folder from user data with the asset folder. But it also didn't change anything. I am really curious to see what is the issue.

In the first screenshot I see two different entries for MPFB. Did you try to install both from both source and the extension platform?

Judging from the screenshot of the system panel, the running version is not the extension platform one. This is how it should look if you manage to install from the extension platform:

My suggestion would be to first try to remove all traces of the manual install and then only use the one from the extensions platform. Once we're sure there's only one version competing for the relevant settings, we can take another look at paths.

okay, so what I did now is:
- uninstalled all versions of the MPFB on blender
- installed the MPFB from get extensions in preferences
- added my path to user data in preferences
- went to the side panel of MPFB (now the system and resources panel looks like the one you showed me)
- went to library settings and loaded the assets pack from ZIP file
- then my computer was loading for a while, once it stopped, the library was still empty (even tho blender notification was that it uploaded successfully)
- I restarted blender to see if if would show then, but it didnt

so my issue is still the same, I am not sure how to get this to work as I am not really a coder

Ok, good.

Now I'd like to see what has happened in the directories. Assuming you installed the system assets pack, I'd like to see the user files, the data directory and the eyebrows directory (if it exists).

You can find your user files via a button under system and resources. This should open a file window, which will look different on your computer. There you should be able to open the folders.
