Keep MakeWalk to next release please

Postby drzx » Fri Apr 10, 2020 12:43 am

MakeWalk is really useful. For example if using MH with mixamo on blender. So i really expecting that MalkWalk will still available on 1.2.0 version, and future.

The updated version of Makewalk for Blender 2.8 is BVH Retargeter, available at:

https://diffeomorphic.blogspot.com/p/bv ... geter.html

It works with the usual Makehuman rigs and can be customized to support alternative rigs using a .json file

Just for history's sake, Thomas Larsson wrote MakeWalk and made several other significant contributions to MakeHuman, like the mhx2 exporter. Thomas is a physicist by profession and the 3D graphics world seems mostly a hobby for him. BVH Retargeter is Thomas's extension of his MakeWalk project, but it was renamed because Thomas mostly seems to use Daz studio now.

Luckily, BVH Retargeter aims to be agnostic about the source of the mesh and skeleton, and therefore seems likely to be maintained if Thomas doesn't switch hobbies.

Note that the MH dev team currently isn't really involved in the development of MakeWalk nor BVH retargeter. So questions about their future status should be directed to Thomas Larsson.
