3D Print Problem with Blender and Simplify 3D

Postby Bescheuerter » Thu Sep 19, 2019 5:31 pm

Hello, I have created the last days for a birthday present a figure from Makehuman. I import this figure in Blender 2.74. I then create an STL file for printing on a 3D printer. As a slicer, I use Simplify 3D and there are already problems in the print preview where some gaps can be seen. The STL file was checked for errors in NetFabb and corrected. Unfortunately, there is still the problem with the oral cavity which is already created in Makehuman.
The oral cavity can be removed in Blender, but it is awfully awkward and takes a lot of time! Is there a way in Makehuman that you can remove that oral cavity already there?
I hope I was understood!

There is no automatic way to remove the mouth in MakeHuman. In theory it should not be too difficult in blender. Select an edge loop near the mouth in edit mode and delete the loop. Now select a vertex on the rest to the mouth structure and use ctrl-L to select neighboring vertices; then delete them.

I think some of the proxies come without a mouth?

I just have to work more with Blender and practice more. Then I will be able to handle Blender better again.

What do you mean now with the proxies? Are the basic figures meant by that?

There is a tab in makehuman where you can choose an alternative mesh ("topology" aka "proxy") for the human. There are a bunch of these. The low poly ones come without mouth.

I came up with a much simpler way to get rid of the mouth cavity !
In Blender, add a sphere. ( I go Add - Mesh - UV sphere)
Move the sphere into the mouth cavity and size it (S) to cover the mouth cavity.
Position the sphere just behind the lips so you can see that it fills in the mouth.
It doesn't matter if the back of the cavity isn't covered. And you don't have to join, weld, group or anything.
I've used this exporting stl to Prusaslicer, and it works fine.
Hope this is useful to anyone coming here searching on that problem ! =o)
