Troll mode? :-)

Postby joepal » Wed Jan 27, 2010 8:00 pm

This is how a model looked in blender today. Steps to reproduce:

* installed makehuman revision 683 (ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, via deb)
* made a cute lady model
* exported to named file
* opened blender (2.49b from blender homepage)
* opened pydrivers in text editor
* chose import/mhx
* checked "body shapes" (leaving all other buttons in default state)
* loaded MHX

Did not touch any other settings.

From the MHX FAQ:

The face is stuck in an ugly shape and does not respond to the panel bones.
The character becomes generally unresponsive or Blender quits unexpectedly.
Under some circumstances, the import script seems to corrupt Blender's memory heap. Most often this happens if a character is imported several times, and both facial shapes and FK/IK switch are activated. This is likely a Blender bug; even a faulty python script should not corrupt the memory. If a Blender python guru reads this, please tell me if something in mhx_import.py does something that may corrupt memory, e.g. the calls to the Draw module at the end of the file.

To avoid this kind of problem, do this:

    1. Import the character into a pristine Blender session.
    2. Save the blend file.
    3. Quit and restart Blender.
    4. Load the blend file.

Note that it is not enough to Ctrl-X start a fresh scene if Blender's memory is corrupt.

Assuming this is it then, since I can't replicate it. I'm a bit surprised though since I can't have been working more than five minutes with blender.

Has this bug been reported upstreams in blender?

I tried to search blender's bug tracker, but at the moment it is bloody useless since search is disabled and all you can do is skim through the whole list sorted on date.

No, I haven't made a bug report to Blender, because I doubt that anybody will look into it. This kind of bug is both hard to specify and to fix, and there will probably not be any more releases in the 2.4x series. I will make a report if this behavior persists in 2.5, but not until beta.
