What can we expect at this point from the product?

Postby VitalBodies » Mon Jan 11, 2010 4:15 am

What can we expect at this point from the product?
Like can it render an image?

For example, when i render from the latest nightly build all that shows up is the black back ground and the hair?
That might be what is to be expected (as the program is a work in process) or might show my MakeHuman or Aqsis is not set up right.
I ask so i can be more supportive on feedback.

Also for feedback I would also like to say the images that say EXPORT - SAVE - LOAD are all squashed on the FILES page.
The images that says AQSIS is squashed on the RENDER page.
HAIR and BACKGROUND are squashed on the LIBRARY page.
The images seem fine on the MODELING page.
Additionally the render (final pass) does not show up until I close the Light_map window.

Using aqsis, it can render an image yes, and you can export to blender or other 3d modelers.

If it only shows the hair, there is something wrong with aqsis, which version are you using, on which os? Are there errors in the output?

Do you use the official alpha4, or the svn version?

I am using the nightly build and when I installed let Ubuntu 9.10 (64-bit) decide the dependencies and load AQSIS.
Some things to mention:
01/10/2010 20:49:30 ERROR: RiSubdivisionMesh contains non-manifold data
01/10/2010 20:53:38 WARNING: Exceeding allocated texture memory by 25165824
UPDATE: Nvidia NVS 290 with 256MB of ram.

Another odd note.
If I wait and wait and wait to close the Light_map window, the Final pass is at the same point of rendering the hair as if I close it much sooner.
...And, with no hair the final pass is black only.

Would be fun if there was an about that gave the version and such - but then you all know that....

MakeHuman and AQSIS do not show up under installed software in Ubuntu (like they should?).
In synaptic:
AQSIS: 1.2.0-2.1 Ubuntu1 (karmic)
MakeHuman: 590 (mh.jsp.se)

So should I be using MakeHuman or MakeHuman-alpha?
This could be an over sight on my part or in the setup/install instructions.
In synaptic: MakeHuman is installed and MakeHuman-alpha is not.
Although I would have thought I was using the nightly builds as the program is different everyday so far?
I am admittedly new and trying to make my way. : )

If you have buttons which are squeezed, you're probably using nightly builds, which are only for developers, as it is work in progress and not stable or usable. As a user it's best to use these packages: http://code.google.com/p/makehuman/.

Is there a simple way to have the stable version of MakeHuman added to the software sources so it updates automatically?

Here is what I get on the stable 4 (now) version:
COMMAND aqsis -Progress renderman_output/scena.rib
01/10/2010 22:40:37 WARNING: Exceeding allocated texture memory by 25165824
and...
01/10/2010 22:41:05 ERROR: RiSubdivisionMesh contains non-manifold data
01/10/2010 22:41:05 ERROR: syntax error at renderman_output/ribFiles/hairs.rib line 1
01/10/2010 22:41:05 ERROR: Unrecognised RIB request at renderman_output/ribFiles/hairs.rib line 1
And a totally black Final Pass.

I did not add the hair just loaded the program made the person a female and rendered.
I did do a complete removal of the other version of MH.
and reinstalled AQSIS: (is this part of the problem?)
3delight imported
/bin/sh: shaderdl: not found
/bin/sh: shaderdl: not found
/bin/sh: shaderdl: not found
/bin/sh: shaderdl: not found
3delight loaded
/bin/sh: shaderdl: not found

Also the hair does not show up on the model within MH if i add the hair.

That's a really old version, the current aqsis is 1.6.0. You can get an up-to-date version here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/aqsis/files/.
