importing mhx2 into Blender

importing mhx2 into Blender

Postby Twinmum » Sun Feb 26, 2023 3:45 am

I feel like I am getting so close, but still not quite. I want to pose a figure from MH in Blender and then save that pose back in MH. I've read what I can find and watched videos. So, "I think" I'm almost there. I have the option in MH to export a mhx2 file, but I don't have the option in Blender to import it. I've added the import_runtime_mhx2 folder into the Blender directory and when I go to preferences in Blender, I have checked the box that says MakeHuman: Import runtime makeHuman exchange 2 (mhx2) Do I need to do anything from here? I've closed Blender and reopened it and the box is still checked, but I still don't have the import option.

TIA

This is a little on the other side. N-Panel:

I don't even know what I'm looking for... I really don't use Blender that much and so I googled N panel and all the results were for cleaning up a cluttered n panel
This is what I see in Blender

Getting ever closer (I think)
So I found the N panel and clicked import mhx2, selected the file only to be presented with this error dialogue! (tried without checking he override box and clicking it)

Unfortunately, I think MHX2 might lag behind a bit in regards to blender compatibility. It is largely considered deprecated in favor of MPFB2, although there are still some features in MHX2 which have not corresponding version in MPFB2.

From the error message, it would seem that something has changed in later blender versions causing MHX2 to stop working. A crude workaround would be to use an older blender version to import the character, save it as a blend file and then open that blend file in a newer version of blender.

It's extremely strange:

Blender 3.4.1; MakeHuman 1.2.0 (or alpha — the result is identical)

YAY
I've solved the problem. I ended up uninstalling Blender and installing a slightly older version. Now I can import the mhx2 files, create custom poses and install them into MH.

If this option suits you, then that's fine. But mhx2 may well be imported into Blender 3.4.1. Perhaps need to update the MHX2 plugin on both sides.
