rig-display MH-FBX-character in Blender 2.9

Postby Rrikge » Fri Nov 05, 2021 9:16 am

Hello, when I import a FBX-character (made in MH 1.2.0) into Blender 2.9 I see a huge mass of bones outsite the model, like a kind of crown. Can't find any way to normalize.
When I load a FBX-file from other sources (e.g. Mixamo) I have a normal display.
What could be wrong?
I hope someone can help! Thanks in advance :)

Greetings!

The "wrong" thing here is FBX. There's more on that here:
loki1950 wrote:We know that our fbx exporter is flawed it is a propitiatory format owned by Autodesk that they do not expose at all to the Open Source community they do have a connection to the blender foundation though so their import/export is much better than ours so a change in your workflow maybe in order.
Export from makehuman to blender with either mhx2 or MPFB our makehuman blender bridge app
From blender export to fbx

It does add an other step but the accuracy is much better please feel free to continue the conversation if you have any further issues.

Thanks for the quick reply and the link to tho other reactions.
I read it all, the issue about fbx and open source is more or less clear.

However, I am not a talent in programming and coding subjects.
So I can't find out what steps to make before working with MPFB as bridge between MH and Blender:
1 - where can I find the the needed download files?
2 - where should I store them?
3 - how to install them? So: from Blenders Preferences>Add-ons>Install, or from somewhere else?

I hope I can stay motivated!

Downloads
MPFB2
If you are looking for MPFB2, it can be found in the plugins directory. Look for the file named "mpfb2...zip".

Often-used extensions
If you run from source, you will most likely also want some of the commonly used plugins, such as MHX2 and the asset downloader. These can be found on the plugins page. These are bundled in the 1.2.x releases and in the nightly builds.

Choose whichever way. You can do both.

2 - where should I store them?

I don't really understand the question. You can store the installation files wherever you like.

3 - how to install them?

One file goes in the MakeHuman program folder (in Win: …makehuman-community\makehuman\plugins), the other is installed in Blender
from Blenders Preferences>Add-ons>Install

Yep, that's right.

Which one goes where is indicated on the download page:

Plugins for MakeHuman
These go into the "plugins" directory under MakeHuman

Plugins for Blender
These are installed in Blender

Ah, so quick a reply again, nice!
I did my best and could finally apply your advices in Blender and in MH.

Only for the last(?) step I'm lost again in the labyrinth:
MH says in Community>Socket the message: "Waiting for connection" and mentions also the host and the port. "Accept connections" is also activated.

But: where can I find now the connect-option in Blender (V2.9.3)? Somewhere under the new tab "MPFB V1.9" I think?

Try just clicking: "New human –> From MakeHuman –> Import human"
