Discussion about the artistic side of creating normal maps

Postby bogdan666 » Sun Aug 04, 2019 2:36 pm

I've found a really nice and short tutorial on how to create normal maps easily. And most important: It works! (Blender 2.79)
It's in French, but you don't need to understand it, if you watch closely what he is doing.

The second half is most important as he's only creating a low and a high poly plane+sculpting during the first 7 minutes.
The shown method can be applied to human meshes the same way!

I've tried it and now only the artistic part remains the biggest challenge. (mostly the muscle definition)

I've achieved first fairly good (not perfect, no "wow") results, but there is still much to learn about how to do perfect muscles and creases.

What I've found out so far:

When resculpting the high poly mesh, you can use Add and Subtract!
And the crease brush is your friend (set it to a smaller strength and size).

Any tips from artists/profis out there regarding the usage of certain brushes and techniques in blender? What other tools to use and any other hidden tricks?
