What is the purpose of this?

You can combine the head with FaceRig and the body with GameRig in the finished model.

Yeah, there are difficulties with combining the two. There are several workarounds, from creating your own rig, to changing the character in scenes, where medium and small scenes use one rig and large scenes use another.

I'm not good at skinning at all. It's this point that's bugging me. I try to avoid it wherever possible. And yes, I'm aware of Mixamo, AccuRig, Daz3D.

Nope, no need to do skinning at all. The character is simply replaced in scenes depending on the need to display different details. For games this approach is overhead, but in video you can use several persornages with different details and rigging — the main thing is that they would be similar.
