Skin Builder Blend file anyone??

Postby badwolf » Thu Mar 30, 2017 2:41 pm

okay given the limits of MH in doing Asian, Native American and other green/red skin tones would it be possible to by way of doing a "base" and then using RGB add nodes to get the skin tones needed??

obviously the different marks on the skin (and stuff like Tattos , Freckles and Makeup ) would have to be an added layer but just talking about the color areas on the skin should be possible.

sure it's possible but im not sure the result would be sufficient for your needs. the problem i have when doing skin is that its not as simple as a change in hue because the dark and light areas start to look unatural. for example the light areas can look over saturated and the dark areas look flat. that said i think for many purposes a simple set of controls for hue, contrast, light/dark could be pretty useful but i personally would prefer to see more skin options created from new photo reference of varied skin types. that also adds alot of variation in detail.

Have a look at oversword's Young Caucasian Female with genitals he added a Gimp .xfc for it that has the genitals and nipples as layers it can be used as a base for many skins just by changing the bottom layer.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Where is the Gimp .xfc file?

This sounds like what I've been talking about with having features in multiple layers so they can be laid on top of a base texture, I've been using lip color as an example.

Perhaps it makes sense to "outsource" this to a separate specialized program like Gimp, but since the necessary algorithms are already there and used in various other features (e.g. eyelashes, foreground background images) I think there would be a big useability win to provide a basic form of this functionality within MakeHuman.

I notice that the young asian male skin uses a generic young_male_diffuse image and just sets diffuseColor settings in the mhmat file:
diffuseColor 1.0 0.95 0.85

If the difference between two race items can be a few numerical figures, perhaps it would make sense to make these numbers user-adjustable in the interface.

here is link to the gimp file oversword
layered skin files are supper useful. do more people here use gimp or photoshop? i only have photoshop. this is something i can push forward until more talented take over but its too bad there isnt a more flexible layered image format. anyone have thoughts on that? id be willing to learn gimp and start setting some of this up if theres interest

Out of curiousity, I took one of the young male texture files and converted it to greyscale, the result is rather scarier than I was expecting:
Textured_bw.jpg

Even if you take that image and convert it to greyscale to get rid of the color from the lighting it still looks scary.

Really if I saw a friend and they looked like this I would be worried about their health. Is that what we want our generated characters to look like?

I have converted that .xfc file for use with krita and the Gimp can export it to Photoshop's .psd you might have to fiddle with the layer organisation that and Photoshop should be able to import .xfc files then we could share various layers your tan lines mask comes to mind.
