Various models

Postby namuhekam » Tue May 01, 2018 10:37 pm

This is planned series of renderings that were done in Makehuman wth the first one is Evony. For those that are not familiar with that name, it is of a controversial game known for its unusually salacious and otherwise false advertisement that cause it to be mocked as a result. As with many online games, it has a medieval setting. The woman is based off a woman that coincidentally share the same name who happens to be a former Tennessee Titans cheerleader. The colors of her outfit roughly matches that of the American football team.

Hi

I just read some articles and googled the pictures. It is a game from 2009? And for those pictures they run into problems?!

Hmm, maybe I have a typical European attitude, but a lot of games consists of violence, ancient and today warfare, assassination, weapons, blood, murder, theft ...
All okay, that's cool, get a PG rate (same here, it is not an U.S. phenomenon).

Then there is something sexy in it and the trouble starts.

Hey, it is fantasy, it is also fantasy that man are always some strong muscled blokes, of course joining a boygroup or these "gangsta" types. Could it be, that woman are also not really interrested in ugly blokes except when they have huge amounts of money ...?!

Do we go back to the fifties?

Fortunately not, the good-looking ex-cheerleader you mentioned (I guess Evony Thompson) now has an interresting job, as far as I figured out 8-)
In the fifties of the last century she could not do this ...

Back to your work: it is the first you present here, therefore it is very good. Maybe for the skirt you should use more subdivision surface, the sword is "comic style" and certainly not medieval, but I guess that was intended. I like it, especially because you supplied your character with your own assets. I hope we will see more of it.

By the way: a cheerleader outfit is an idea for our assets ... my problem: over here cheerleaders are an unknown species ;)

Dunno if you're being sarcastic but the question of what (heterosexual) women are attracted to is more complicated than that! Someone like me who spends a lot of time in female-dominated parts of the internet will notice two trends with how popular characters are portrayed by fans:

1) physically attractive villians and/or minor characters who are given an attractive personality by the fans
2) charming but unattractive characters are made more physically attractive by the fans
(This second group doesn't even have to be human, even clocks and triangles are fair game as long they have a sexy voice!)

This isn't even about hating on anyone by the way, I just wanted to talk about how fandom is weird and cool :D

It's not only the type of images that caused controversy. The company that made it was accused of false advertisement as there were no pretty much no interactive women or any person in the game. The women in the pictures were not taken by Evony, but stock photos that were also found on some adult video covers as well, thus the saying 'sex sells.' Also the game play was criticized for being too much like Sid Civilization. On top of that, players and critics accused Evony of ripping them off of their money and was relatively hard to progress without buying anything.

I've been working with Blender on and off for almost three years. I've watched and read various tutorials and applied some of those techniques to my workflow. Now, that you mentioned that about the sword, it was supposed to be a fantasy one. I probably should have done more research to get it look less comic-like.

That was a surprise. I wouldn't think she would be working for Tesla Motors. Yes, she would have a very hard time getting such a position in that era. Now knowing that, I'm impressed.

Okay the images were more a "deceptive packaging" because they have nothing to do with the game itself. Well, that's rather poor.

If your are interrested: the blade is a bit too wide and would result in a very heavy weapon. There are also longswords, where you need both hands to fight. For the sizes, Wiki has good explanations:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sword

for medieval times especially:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knightly_sword

and for the longsword:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longsword

If the sword is very big, "fullers" are in the middle to lighten the sword. The diameter of the grip must be smaller, otherwise you will loose the sword in a fight.

Well, since you mentioned her, I was interrested in how she looks in reality. I didn't expect to find this context, but I think it was worth mentioning that not to reduce her to her physical attractiveness only ;)

My comment was only about interpersonal attraction considering physical appearance of real humans, because I only mentioned the images of the game presenting "half-nude" girls. Take a 100 pictures of different men (faces only) and present them to women. Then try the same test the other way round. Men and women are not very different considering the topic "physical appearance". Of course other things like socio-economic status, voice, attitudes etc. will also influence the attraction in real life. But you only got the pictures, no further information (Evony looks attractive for me, btw.) ;)

About fandom: you are absolutely right that a character in this case gets his/her interpretation from the fans. Sometimes the fans create their own versions (like in cosplay) and we will never know, if that was intended by the person, who has created the character. Wonderful to see that at a ComicCon. I don't know if there is so much difference between males and females in this case, because, yes, fandom is weird and cool, 100% agreed :D :D

This is a concept piece. The model is based of the creator the Blender software, Ton Roosendaal and its 3d primitive primate Suzanne. The football concept is just a random input.

The images catch the eye immediately and you want to look closer. Great composition, colors and renders.

I have another model to show. She's based off of Ceylan Özgül.
