they are all compromises
Let me explain what I don't like:
The initial idea was both characters holding glasses of champagne in their hands. This would have required modelling the glasses and, more difficult, champagne which has these funny bubbles inside. I dropped this idea due to lack of time and went for the cocktail glasses I modelled some time ago. After putting these glasses in front of the characters I realized that they were barely perceptable. Glasses and beverages have to shine and sparkle in an image like this. So these glasses went to the table. Too much compromise already at this stage.
Next trouble: Fireworks. Ok, I never did this before. Most tutorials on this topic use Blender Internal. I use Cycles. Some particle tricks simply don't work with cycles. I'm really not satisfied with the fireworks. They lack trails of sparks behind every coloured dot. They lack smoke. They just look like lamps.
At last I modelled the rocket cascade to bring some action to a too static scene.
Generally a good idea, but the direction of the rockets destroys the composition of the image. This can be fixed, of course, but this takes time and I wanted some result in 2016.
Last point: Lighting of the characters. It's a quick and dirty job and should have been done better. The way it's done now leads to a lot of noise although the image got rendered with 6000 samples.
