Blender MakeHuman IK Setup

Postby lvartist0042 » Thu Dec 03, 2020 9:11 pm

Started experimenting in Blender Pose mode with the MakeHuman addon. The attached file shows my interface. I checked the Auto Ik box in the Tool tab and the "+" button for IK rig. In Pose mode I now get these grey bars that I can manipulate to alter the pose. They work fine. Some older YouTube videos show a different method of manipulating the pose. The object has "rings" that can be used for manipulation. Is it possible to also show these rings with the newer interface?

Thanks

The older videos show the result of the older import method "MHX". MHX is able to add a lot of different riggin/ik options, but is also an archaic and somewhat cumbersome system otherwise. You can still use MXH by downloading the blender plugin from the download page.

The import method you use in the image is MPFB. While being more modern and having many other nifty features, it hasn't quite yet caught up on MHX in regards to rigging options.

Thanks. By the dates of the videos I assumed it might be an older version. I will look for the MXH version. Worth trying.

OOh was also arrived at this point. Followed a lot of old blender/makehuman tutorials about animating the rig to find find out that they where outdated.

How does one use IK now on makehuman model?
So far I tried auto IK in blender which is not super but oke.

Just seeing that there is something about IK in the changelog.

There are several approaches for IK in mpfb2. The main ones are:

* Import or create a human with the default skeleton. Then go to the rigging -> rig helpers panel and add the desired IK bones
* Import or create a human with the game engine. Then go to rigging -> convert to rigify and turn it into a rigify skeleton (which has ik bones)
* Import or create a human without a skeleton. Go to the rigging -> add rig panel and add a rigify meta rig. Then click generate.

The first approch is the one which will be the most similar to the old MHX ik helpers.

Thx for the fast reply.
Where do I find the rigging menu I'm using the latest build from here https://download.tuxfamily.org/makehuman/plugins/ on a Ubuntu machine but don't see any rigging menu.

The panels are contextual. Some options will only show up once you have an appropriate object selected. So without any object selected, you won't see the rigging panel:

But if you create and select a human object, you will get a panel for adding a rig:

And once you have added a rig, you can add rig helpers:
