MBL has its own homepage these days though. There is in practice no functional relation between MH and MBL.

Then might it be that we drop the link all together and not imply a link between the projects.

Enjoy the Choice :)

In my opinion it's a good idea to advertise Manuel's stuff on MH. This project owes a lot to him, what we all learned the hard way since he left. The informaton shouldn't be outdated, of course. But isn't the whole makehuman.org outdated?

Makehuman.org remains the official website for the the MakeHuman project. There is very much a connection between our community sire and the official site for the project. Manuel still has the keys to the official MH site and has not left the project. He is simply on sabbatical, putting his passion and artistic energy into Manuel Bastioni Lab. Because MBL lets him pursue his artistic visions without the constraints of backwards compatibility, I'm sure this time is refreshing to an artist of his creative talent and energy.

While Manuel renews and refreshes, its up to the rest of our MH community to continue to grow and support the wonderful MakeHuman project he gave birth to. So, thanks to all of you for contributing to this forum, and thanks to Joel for the tremendous effort he puts in behind the scenes to grow our community.

That's great to hear, but hard to believe. If this is true, why did he want his name removed from the source files (rev2005)?

This is hard to do while makehuman.org looks like an abandoned place. Keep in mind that potential new users will be directed to makehuman.org by their search engine. What is their first impression? Yet another discontinued OSS project. And away they are. Very few will find the link to this place.

I really have no idea, but my best guess is that there were legal burdens associated with leaving his name everywhere, and that he did not want those burdens cluttering his life as an open-source artist.

Bottom line - MakeHuman is a mature, important, and effective open source program. It would be sad if we didn't continue grow it, even if Manuel would decide to make his sabbatical permanent. My optimism that he is not "gone forever" is based on the fact that he has never said he was leaving permanently, and he is a pretty direct communicator. History shows that he has previously taken a sabbatical from the MakeHuman project and come back stronger and more refreshed than ever.

In the interim, his stewardship of the MH project remains embodied in the official MH site, but the status of this web site does not keep us from growing the community that was born from it. Keep the contributions coming and the community vital :)

I absolutely agree with you on that. Otherwise I wouldn't be here.
but the status of this web site does not keep us from growing the community that was born from it.

And here you elegantly ignored the second statement of my previous post. It actually does keep us from growing anything and I explained why. If makehuman.org (temporarely?) doesn't get updates, then do what your local store does when moving (temporarely) to a new location. Nail a note on the old door to let people find this new location.
