January 2016 contest entry "Character Prototype"

Postby RebelFlyx » Fri Jan 29, 2016 9:51 pm

I don't think there is really a contest after wilflo's contribution, but just for variety - here's my first attempt at game character hair, so it's all polygons with png texture. I cannibalized some makehuman hair texture for that.

Thanks! I found the technique in this tutorial: http://www.cgmasters.net/free-tutorials/polygon-hair-modeling/. There were some points about the material settings that I didn't quite get to work, but it worked pretty well with just the pngs. :)

I wonder if it would work with MakeClothes…

Not with my attempt ;)
I really just stuck a bunch of blades around the head.

Is MakeHuman hair usually made with MakeClothes? Huh. Maybe I should try that next.

Yes and topology proxies too :) anything that has to fitted to the base mesh one thing to remember is that Makeclothes only works with an all quad mesh same as the MH main mesh.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Here I've tried using this method in MakeClothes. The result looks half-decent (and could probably be much better if made by person with actual talent as opposed to, well, me), but the mesh is unnecessarily complicated. All in all it could be useable if you know what you're doing. I'm going to stop experimenting with it for now.

Wow, thanks, I didn't expect this much interest! Actually, the final mesh looked a bit clumsy to me as well, so I was already planning on trying another approach. But I kind of liked the spiky look, and I wanted to give it it's fifteen seconds of fame before scrapping it.

Thanks for pointing me towards MakeClothes, I hadn't even thought as far as making clothes and hair interchangeable between different characters. I'll give it a try!

You are welcome. If you ever make anything decent, especially in the hair department, please be sure to contribute. There's still very much of a shortage of assets in MH.
