I promised clothes for this month so I couldn't chicken out - here we go:

The pattern in the background is photoshopped in, and I a put a very slight blur over the whole thing to soften the edges, but the rest is all blender.

Yes, exactly. I remembered doing a flag + wind tutorial once and went on from there, blowing wind up onto a flattenend half sphere.

Is the faceted look of the fabric done intentional?

Yes, it is. I wanted a crinkly looking fabric, especially with pronounced vertical creases, and using blenders smooth setting or subsurf modifier just flattens all of them out:

The subsurf version looks nice enough, but it just doesn't draw the eye like the facets do. Also, I think the curves/edges contrast gives an illusion of movement, makes it look more like a snapshot, but that might be my artists pride talking...
