Sorry for being so early...

Mermaid.png

The magic chain: MakeHuman, Blender (Cycles), Gimp.
Two wood textures from cgtextures for the boat, a moonmap from NASA and a rock texture from cgtextures as well. The corresponding normal map was made with the Gimp plugin Insanebump. The normalmap for the fish scales is handmade in blender. The clouds are procedural.
For those who think that this goes too far - having sex with animals is disgusting. Even just thinking about this image in a sexual context is disgusting.
Wash your brain with hot water and iodine!

Wow, of all the things I've expected to see here… well, let's just say this is not one of them.

Nice scales :)
How did you create the splashing waves to the left? Particle system with drop-shaped objects?

Aren't mermaids supposed to be, you know, human? ;)
Bad, bad Ariel, how dare you love a human prince, that's just perverted, bah! :x

Two systems with simple icospheres (glass shader) and a vector blur.

On the contrary, in fact I'm pretty sure that if mermaids were a thing that's exactly how they'd look. As a (former) zoologist I know that aquatic creatures tend to have thicker layers of fat than terrestrial ones because insulation and stuff. Also, nice work on everything else. I kinda feel sorry for people who'll have to compete with this, chances are you're gonna win by landslide yet again. The only thing is I wish there was a bit more light, I know that'd kinda defeat the ethos, but still…

Great and original picture! :)
Great lighting too. The quality of contest entries is very high, it's very cool to see such a response to it.
