Suggest a topic

The topic for october is "Supernatural" (largely to catch Halloween). After that, I'm out of planned topics.

What would you like to see as topics for the next few months?

My own ideas are largely related to different areas of work, such as science, traffic, medicine and so on. But there are probably more interesting topics out there.

I like the idea of having topics that allow for almost any entry. We don't have too much contributions here. Would be a pity to exclude really good entries. So my topic suggestion is "Anything goes".

I'm happy that Supernatural is coming up - my Fantasy piece didn't get finished in time, but it fits that topic as well and I now have plenty of time to get it just right.

I'd like to see a SciFi contest, maybe even broken down into subgenres (though that might make it too specific). Or "Music", which is a rather open category.
Apart from that, I think that rather than "anything goes" we could have topics that make use of particular features, so maybe a custom target competition, where you use a CT in the piece and also make it available on the library. Or a topic focused on make-clothes, possibly "high fashion". So there is a lot of leeway in what is in the image, but there are restrictions on how you get there (I'm personally biased towards a "no image textures" competition, because I try to do everything using procedural generation anyway).

Yes, i agree with that, particularly with the idea to force the competitants to use more than the default assets, but no image texture for the body mesh seems a bit too puristic for me.
Other proposals:
-contemporary topics, maybe from a big global news story
-common events in peoples' lifes, like holiday, illness, birthday, etc
-rebuilding scenes from famous oil paintings or sculptures, e.g. the Laokoon-group
-working off the palette of human emotions
-3D Celebrities

I'd like to suggest "Music Video Screenshot".

The idea would be to create a conceptual art piece for a potential music video. :)

Also, I would add that this contest have a stipulation that the artist do their best to recreate a real musician in performance;
I believe there are enough of us that can get very close to this by mesh modeling and UV mapping. :geek:

Besides "History", which is a personal interest of mine, I'd like to suggest "Cultures". That should be a very interesting topic and should produce some beautiful and colourful images. Also it would force people to really play with the sliders a bit to get a proper model for a specific ethnicity. It would also hopefully see some use of MakeClothes for some culture-specific clothes :)

Seems the two subjects that got the most traction were "music / music video" and "clothes / fashion".

Anyways, I like the idea with trying to convince people to try out MakeClothes, no matter how cumbersome it is.

So I'm announcing November as "Clothes" and December as "Music".

(October was announced as "Supernatural" already).

Keep suggesting topics, and I'll pick a few for january to mars a bit later on.

How about general topics such as "adventure", "surprise", "challenge" or "achievement"? It gives a lot of freedom of interpretation to the artist.
Some more suggestions: "modern age", "technology", "solitude".

Here's a topic suggestion: "Transition"

Title of the chapter I'm working on right now for a book I'm writing.

I'd also like to suggest the seasons, e.g. "winter" for January, "spring" for May etc., or some seasonal feast (like you did with supernatural for Halloween, except that that particular feast all but doesn't exist in many European countries. Being a Dutchman, I only know it from the movies).
