Working on improving the skin texture

Postby joepal » Wed Jun 30, 2021 9:24 am

Trying to tweak the procedural aspects of the skin texture. I think it's a clear improvement, but also that there is room for further work.

At a first glance I like the new skin version much better. It looks less plaster like. Though the procedural approach does unfortunately not solve the problem of having different skin pore sizes/strength on different areas of the body.

Can you link to where your blender file is with this procedural please? Would love to compare it to others.

There's a partial separate solution for that though. In both MPFB1 and MPFB2 there's material instancing so you can have one bundle of settings for (for example) the lips and another for the body at large. But I agree this is crude. It would be better to have some kind of weight painting or similar so that (again as an example) the inside of the thighs become smoother than the outside.

Right now it's just a local chaos experiment thingy, and I kind of destroyed it by trying to add procedural veins too. But I'll see to cleaning it up and share the blend file.

Here's a demo blend: http://www.makehumancommunity.org/conte ... _skin.html

It contains both the "old" skin as it gets created by MPFB2 and the "new" skin.

The collection with the old skin is disabled, so when you render, what you see is the new skin.
