Nice job. Look forward to part 2. I don't use Maya, but years ago as an exercise, I wrote a Wiki on getting things into Maya. I was quite hampered by having no Maya skills. The hardest part was handling transparency (which I do discuss), but I never did master handing skeletons and poses. The text is here:

I think it's great if Makehuman is available to artists in other 3D programs, and your tutorial seems to have some great tips. The t-pose tip was the one that really caught my eye because I never solved the posing issues before moving on.
