Facial Expression and Viseme Rigging Tutorial

Postby brkurt » Thu Feb 13, 2014 10:57 pm

Hello everyone...I've begun a series of tutorials for facial expression and viseme rigging using the Makehuman Alpha 8 mesh and Blender 2.69.

You can access it here: http://geekopolis.ca/wp/?page_id=39

and here: http://geekopolis.ca/wp/?page_id=78

The full viseme set can be found here: http://geekopolis.ca/wp/?page_id=102

The model is free to use, and updated daily. It will contain a full set of visemes, facial expressions (+ blink), and walk cycle.

Here is the model with a walk/run cycle:

Here's some work done with the 'O', 'QW' and 'UY' visemes. Today, we are featuring the 'O' viseme. I'll present it from start to finish, and then a movie. ;)

For those with short attention spans, here is the model: http://www.geekopolis.ca/blender/visemes/aestheticaViseme1_269.blend

The first is the 'O' created strictly with the facial rig:

Now the process of refinement, beginning with the half 'O' of a dropped jaw:

And now the 'lipRing' vertex group, from which I create the shape key 'lipFatten'

One of the nice things about using a pose, is that you can select Edge Loops and smooth them without radical vertex jumps, though they won't solve all your problems.

Finally the finished O:

and here is the Open GL video (you will need to join Vimeo to see it):

also, here is the same viseme set using the Blender internal renderer:
