How does Blink/Unblink Work?

Postby brkurt » Sun Jul 31, 2011 3:08 am

I'm just about ready for my first blog post on Makehuman, but I can't figure out how the Blink/Unblink buttons work on the new Lip Sync interface.
Everything else can be tracked to shape keys. Do I have to key the bones? :?

I'm using Blender 2.58a for LInux 32-bit, and Makehuman Nightly 2674; the combination is truly symphonic in complexity! :)

The Blink button moves the lid bones in the face on bone layer 9. These bones in turn drive the X rotation of the deform lid bones on layer 16.

Lid movement was originally implemented by shape keys, but I found that using bones gave better results. Because the verts move in circles the eyes do not penetrate the lids halfway, which can be the case with shapekeys. A corollary is that blinking works even if shape keys are not loaded.
